The Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence have all specified that the single greatest threat to the safety and security of Americans all over the country is that of white supremacist violence and racially motivated violent extremists (RMVEs).

To this end, last week on Eid al-Adha, we presented our joint report with Emgage Action, The Double Standards of U.S. FTO vs. DTO Prosecution, in the United States Capitol. The report details the double standards of terrorism prosecution that have long existed in U.S. counterterrorism policy and provides recommendations on how to effectively counter the threat of white supremacy, in the hopes of keeping Americans out of harm’s way.

In advance of being able to present our report in the Capitol, we discussed the importance of our work with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY). Earlier this week, we were very happy to learn that following our briefing, the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee is holding multiple hearings on the issue of domestic terrorism.

MPAC staff members have been working closely with Chairman Gary Peters Committee to ensure they have our reports and findings as they are shaping the hearing. American Muslims must have a seat at the table when these important decisions are being made and discussions are being had. Through the strength of our research and relationships with members of Congress, we are able to ensure that happens.
