Umar Hakim-Dey
ConsultantA native of Compton, California, Umar served 10+ years as director for a faith-based organization. There, Umar achieved grassroots accomplishments in community service. He now heads INKERIJ Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) Social Enterprise, where Umar shifted his focus to lead what he coins as a “breakthrough organization that focuses on community building.” Here he combines both business and community service work into a social entrepreneurial model helping the same service market build its power to combat social ills post-pandemic. He earned a Business Management degree and a Masters in Ethical Leadership. His strengths are based on transferable skills and wisdom learned in Compton.
Umar founded INKERIJ® (pronounced as Encourage) – an advisory organization whose mission is to “help to build capacity for purpose-driven organizations and individuals through program development, audience insights, and 1-to-1 leadership coaching.”
Umar is responsible for facilitating INKERIJ Foundation’s programming and its social-preneurial vision for social change. Where change means providing an intuitive educational experience that empowers local Angelenos. Umar draws on the key principle of Situational Leadership. Umar says, “we organize these heterogenic components, for developing future leaders. He also encourages interfaith dialogue and developing relationships across a wide scope of genres and positive people.”
As an active alum of several key leadership and entrepreneurship networks, he serves a facilitator/trainer for its national program housed at USC Center of Religion Civic Culture. Through this training, he contributes to civic-social organizations including NewGround Muslim ~ Jewish Partnership for Change, developed a partnership with California/LA Voice PICO network, and is an active community organizer in the City of Los Angeles.
