Position Overview

The full-time policy program manager is a mid-level position for someone with 3 to 5 years of experience in government engagement, program management, curriculum development, and/or community building.

The Policy Program Manager assists the Washington DC Office Director in moving MPAC’s strategic policy initiatives forward by managing leadership development activities for young and emerging policy leaders and coordinating year-round policy related programs.

The successful candidate will be a thoughtful, creative, compassionate, and a dynamic team player who excels at coordinating across a growing and diverse organization. Self-motivation, strong leadership and management skills, excellent writing and communication skills, flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to successfully manage programs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage the MPAC Policy Leadership Institute consisting of three anchor programs, including the Young Leaders Policy & Government Summit, the Congressional Leadership Development Program, and the Graduate Policy Research Fellowship;
  • Organize annual policy and government summit, manage policy summit alumni engagement and coordinate activities bringing alumni together;
  • Lead, manage, and organize annual congressional leadership development program with external partner organization and staffers on Capitol Hill, including securing congressional internship positions, interviewing intern fellows, and coordinating summer-long speakers series, and professional development workshops;
  • Work with the Washington DC Office Director to determine specific public policy research needs and fill those needs with graduate policy research fellows and manage fellowship program;
  • Lead year-round policy internship program;
  • Create and implement professional development programs and networking events for alumni of the Policy Leadership Institute and affiliated American Muslim policy professionals;
  • Work with the Director of Development to find financial resources for policy programs including major donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors;
  • Support the Washington DC Office Director in executing general programs for the Washington, DC office, including quarterly policy forums, congressional briefings, and the annual Empowering Voices Awards.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Sincere and demonstrated commitment to increasing the public’s understanding of Islam and improving policies that impact American Muslims;
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in government engagement, program development, communications, or other relevant fields, Bachelor’s degree required;
  • A strong understanding of the policy-making and legislative process with particular experience in coalition and community building;
  • A strong understanding of key domestic policy issues impacting American Muslim communities; including but not limited to national security, civil liberties, immigration, religious freedom, and civic engagement;
  • Experience with grant writing and/or working with grant writers, corporate sponsors, or major donors is highly preferred;
  • Experience with public speaking to diverse audiences and exceptional writing, editing, and critical analysis skills;
  • Be proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate with an attention to detail. Self motivated with a positive and professional approach to management;
  • Ability to work in dynamic, fast-moving, high-stress environments.
