Position Overview

The full-time policy analyst position is an entry to mid-level position for someone with 2-3 years of experience in the field.

The policy analyst assists the Director of Policy and Advocacy in moving MPAC’s strategic policy initiatives forward within the policy-making, legislative, and advocacy communities. Additionally, the policy analyst coordinates leadership development activities for young and emerging policy leaders.

The successful candidate will be a thoughtful, creative, compassionate, and dynamic team player who excels at coordinating across growing and diverse organization. Self motivation, strong leadership and management skills, excellent writing and communication skills, flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to successfully manage crises and rapid change are essential to this position.

Essential Job Functions

Government & Policy Engagement

  • Engage members of Congress and their staff on legislation and current affairs with particular emphasis on committees with oversight on our policy platform issues;
  • Engage civil service staff at executive departments and agencies with particular emphasis on those with oversight on our policy platform issues;
  • Assist in organizing briefings and forums for the Capitol Hill, executive branch, think-tank, and advocacy communities related to our policy platform issues;
  • Assist the director of policy and advocacy in executing our short- and long-term policy goals;
  • Lead year-round policy internship program, assist in organizing annual policy/government summit, and supporting annual congressional leadership development program.

Policy Analysis & Content Creation

  • Lead in research, writing, and distributing weekly policy perspective titled, “DC News & Views;”
  • Lead in creating and executing rapid-response digital advocacy campaigns around our policy platform issues using email marketing and digital advocacy platforms;
  • Research and assist in writing in-depth policy memos, papers, and statements with a focus on our policy platform issues;
  • Coordinate with social media team to communicate our policy work to our online community of supporters, including quarterly digital advocacy campaigns.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Sincere and demonstrated commitment to increasing the public’s understanding of Islam and improving policies that impact American Muslims;
  • 2-3 years of experience in policy analysis, government engagement, communications, public relations, or other relevant fields, Bachelor’s degree required;
  • A strong understanding of key domestic policy issues impacting American Muslim communities; including but not limited to national security, civil liberties, immigration, religious freedom, and civic engagement;
  • A strong understanding of the policy-making and legislative process with particular experience in coalition building;
  • Experience with public speaking to diverse audiences and exceptional writing, editing, and critical analysis skills;
  • Be proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate with an attention to detail. Self motivated with a positive and professional approach to management;
  • Ability to work in dynamic, fast-moving, high-stress environments.
