Position Overview

We're looking for an experienced, passionate and bold designer who will evolve the visual storytelling of our campaigns, events and programming. You are creative and have the necessary design chops to bring your, and others, ideas to life. You will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with small teams and juggle multiple projects. You understand that great design can amplify good ideas and is a means for creative problem-solving.

You will pitch, design, and evolve creative for digital and print campaigns to drive awareness, engagement and growth. You will also collaborate with our Hollywood Bureau, policy, and development teams to support event, fundraising, and digital advocacy campaigns.

As part of our digital team, you will report to the Digital Director and will be based in our Los Angeles office. You do not need non-profit experience but must be passionate about working in the social justice space. It will be an added bonus if you have an understanding or experience working on Muslim or minority issues.

You must have a diverse and inspiring portfolio that showcases your graphic design skills across print, online, and event collateral. You are an ideal fit if your portfolio also reflects any of these additional skills:

  1. Photography or videography projects
  2. Web design skills that translate to creating landing pages, microsites, and email templates
  3. Experience running social media or email campaigns
  4. Writing compelling and succinct ad/email copy


  • Collaborate with the Digital Director and staff to ideate and execute advertising campaigns and marketing collateral that support programs and events; must be able to explain your design decisions.
  • Translate concepts and social issues into simple and visually understandable designs and messaging.
  • Elevate the MPAC brand through rich and engaging social media graphics, email layouts, landing pages, microsites, ads, and/or simple videos.
  • Conduct user research to inform design decisions and copy that effectively address target audience.
  • Create new and update existing landing pages and microsites in Squarespace, Wordpress or similar platforms.
  • Design mock-ups for microsite redesigns and layout updates.
  • Evolve and systematize style guides to ensure consistent brand recognition.
  • Work with production vendors to ensure the integrity, consistency and quality of final deliverables.
  • Record and edit short videos for social media.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Sincere and demonstrated commitment to social justice; particilarly improving perceptions of Islam and American Muslims.
  • 4-5 years experience in advertising or design related fields.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software (primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).
  • Well-versed in design fundamentals, typography, composition, layout, color, brand systems and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in any of the following are pluses: video editing, photography, HTML/CSS, copywriting.
  • A degree in design, advertising or marketing is a plus.
