Frequently Asked Questions


National Muslim American Young Leaders Summit

Below is a list of frequently asked questions regarding the Summit. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 213-383-3443 or email socal-summit@mpac.org.

  1. When are the required documents due?
    All required documents (listed on the application overview page) must be received by Friday, July 24, 2009 in order to be considered for the Summit.
  2. When will I receive notification of my acceptance?
    You will be contacted by July 28, 2009 whether or not you are accepted into the program.
  3. What is required of me after I am accepted as a Summit participant?
    You are responsible for paying $50 to cover a portion of the program expenses necessary to hold the Summit. Our expectation is that you take what you learned from the Summit and begin to implement methods of community education and engagement at various levels in your communities.
  4. What expenses will $50 cover?
    This fee will cover a two-night hotel stay (August 5-6), five meals and transportation between meetings. You will be responsible for any miscellaneous expenses during your travel.
  5. Where will the Summit take place?
    The Summit will take place in Los Angeles, CA.
  6. When will the Summit be held?
    Check-in will be on Wednesday, August 5 at 5pm during which we will host an orientation dinner. Check-out is Friday, August 7 morning and but the program will end at 4pm at the Islamic Center of Southern California.
  7. Where will I stay?
    You will stay at the Clarion Hotel, located in Los Angeles at 1901 W. Olympic Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 9006. You will share a room with two or three other participants.
  8. How will I get around town?
    MPAC will provide a bus to transport all participants to meetings.
  9. On which days will we have our meetings?
    Meetings will be scheduled all day on Thursday, August 6, through Friday, August 7.
  10. With whom will I meet during the Summit?
    MPAC has arranged meetings with several members of the City Hall & City Council, ACLU, interfaith and civic leaders, as well as members of the news and entertainment industries.
  11. Will I be able to attend jum'ah (Friday) prayer?
    Yes, we will arrange for the group to attend jumu'ah (Friday) prayer at the Islamic Center of Southern California.
  12. How do I find out more information about the individuals and groups with which we will be meeting?
    In your acceptance packet, we will provide you with bios of all individuals and groups who have been scheduled to speak to the Summit participants. We will also include information about MPAC and some of our press releases and publications to allow you time to formulate questions prior to the meetings.
