Intersection of Spirituality & Social Justice Brought Ncube to MPAC

April 2, 2014

This past fall and currently this spring term, Gabbi Ncube has been interning with MPAC in communication, marketing and media. Originally from Tempe, AZ, Ncube is a third year student at Occidental College in Los Angeles. She is working toward her major in media arts and culture, with a focus on media production and screenwriting, and a minor in critical theory and social justice.

Ncube has great interest and passion for the intersection of spirituality and social justice, and believes that through MPAC she has really learned the value and strength of achieving justice starting firstly with ourselves, forming strong communities and encouraging community involvement.

At Occidental she participates in the Values and Vocations Fellowship where the fellows engage in dialogue about spiritualty, contemplative practice and social justice. She is an executive board member of Nia Akoma, a club at Occidental that promotes support and conversation and creates a positive space for women of color. She is also a member of the Black Student Alliance.

In the future, Ncube hopes to create media and art that promotes positive representation of racial minorities and empowerment for women and healthy dialogues.
