Job description

The Media & Communications Director creates and implements a comprehensive plan to use news and popular media channels to move MPAC's strategic policy and understanding goals forward. Opportunity to build a department and team in a nationally established and growing public understanding and policy.

Essential Job Functions:

Create and implement an annual media and communications plan that includes work with television and Internet news (Fox, MSNBC, blogs) and popular media organizations (Entertainment Tonight, Dr. Phil).

Grow MPAC's National news media, citizen journalists and blogger partners by creating and implementing a comprehensive partnership strategy including identifying news media outlets, building and strengthen relationships, and creating attractive stories and content. Grow MPAC's partnerships and prominence among popular, culture-oriented media (talk shows, blogs, entertainment shows) to develop a more authentic and humanizing portrayal of Islam and Muslim.

Grow MPAC's grassroots advocates (campaign leaders) through the strategic use of social media.

Oversee strategy and operations of the MPAC Hollywood Bureau to grow and expand impact.

Work with media department staff to create short-form and quickly-produced original content (podcasts, videos, reviews) and distribute via website and interactive media.

Create the annual strategy and lead execution of the annual Media Awards.

Provide input to President and Board of Directors in the creation and execution of the organization's strategic plan.

Recruit, build and lead the 5-person Media department staff in execution of yearly operational plan.


5+ years experience in public relations, news media, film and/or television industry.

Knowledge of and successful experience with the television and online news media industry.

Knowledge of and successful experience with the Hollywood film and television industry.

2+ years experience managing others.

BA required.

Masters in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or equivalent preferred.
