Past recipients include Warner Brothers for "Syriana", the Academy Award nominated film "Paradise Now" and director Hany Abu-Assad, South Asian rock band "Junoon" founder Salman Ahmad, Morgan Spurlock for the "30 Days" episode "Muslims and America", the Allah Made Me Funny Muslim Comedy Tour, Spike Lee, Karen Armstrong, Hakim Olajuwan, Yusuf Islam and the producers of VH1's "Behind the Music," Michael Moore, and Alec Baldwin.
Quotes from Past Honorees
Alec Baldwin, Actor/Activist
"My deepest thanks to you, to the board of directors and staff of MPAC and to your dedicated supporters for the tremendous honor you bestowed on me.... The opportunity to meet with so many politically engaged Muslim Americans and to share our mutual desire for tolerance, an end to terrorist activities throughout the world and to strengthen the position of Muslim Americans in our own political process here at home is one I will not soon forget.
"MPAC is surely the most important association of its kind in Southern California. Judging from the work that you do, the individuals you have chosen in the past to present the Voices of Courage and Conscience award to and the inspiring people I encountered at the event, I am grateful to you beyond words.
"On this anniversary of September 11th, I would like to pledge my continued support to MPAC and your most worthy goals of understanding, peace and growth for all Muslim Americans."
Mark Gill, President of Warner Independent Pictures
"That is very, very generous of you. Thank you so much. This is really meaningful to us. We find ourselves at the Academy Awards and in all sorts of glitzy events, but this one means a lot to us."
