Lekovic to Keynote
Jain International Conference

August 23, 2013

Edina Lekovic, MPAC's Director of Policy & Programming, will be the keynote speaker at the Claremont Lincoln University 2013 Jain International Conference: “Women’s Perspectives in the Dharma Traditions and Beyond” on Aug. 23-24, 2013.

The conference will begin with a candid look at the state of women around the world. It will be anchored by leading experts giving keynotes on the state of women in Jainism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Click here for a full list of presenters and topics.

The conference has two primary tasks: First, to examine how sacred texts and traditions pose obstacles to the full citizenship of women. Second, to articulate new approaches and cultivate alternative readings of those texts and traditions in order to usher in social equality.

Speakers will examine topics including “How various religious beliefs affect the treatment of women,” “Cultural norms and religious hierarchy,” and much more.

The two-day conference also includes 6 delicious vegan meals and snacks, a bus trip to the Jain Center of California in Buena Park for a Cultural Program and banquet. It is only $60 for all the meals, speakers, and programs for the general public and $35 for students.
