MPAC will host a Young Professionals Networking Luncheon at its 11^th Annual Convention on Saturday, Dec. 17, which will include a special discussion with D. Paul Monteiro, Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement.

“This is a great opportunity for young professionals attending the convention to get to know others from across the country,” said Yasmin Hussein, MPAC's Young Leaders Program Coordinator. “Paul Monteiro is a great model to young professionals who are passionate about civic engagement and want to make a difference in their careers and communities.”

The Young Professionals Networking Luncheon is co-sponsored by MPAC, American Muslim Professionals of Los Angeles, Muslims Establishing Communities in America of Southern California, IMAN College and Young Professionals Group and the Islamic Center of Southern California.

The luncheon is an opportunity for young professionals to learn how to serve as active leaders in the community and to be able to connect with one another by getting involved in civic engagement and interfaith based work. It is also an opportunity for young professionals who are from diverse career backgrounds to network with each other and form possible collaborations.

As the Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, Monteiro serves as the liaison to faith-based and community organizations and also assists in coordinating the White House Mentorship Program. He worked for then-Senator Barack Obama in his Senate office in 2006 before joining the Obama for America campaign in Chicago as the National Deputy Director of Religious Affairs. A graduate of the University of Maryland and the Howard University School of Law, he previously worked at the United States Supreme Court, two Washington, DC law firms, and spent a year teaching at a local public charter school.
