Re-examining Islamic Law is Jasser Auda's Passion

Qatar-Based Islamic Thinker Will Bring His Insight to MPAC Convention

December 1, 2011

Jasser Auda is a philosopher and thinker whose life work is re-examining Islamic law for current day society. He will bring his insights to a roundtable discussion on "Islamic Movements: Help or Hindrance?" at MPAC's 11th annual convention on Dec. 17th.

An Associate Professor on Public Policy in Islam at the Qatar Foundation in Qatar, Auda's most current work is "Re-Thinking Islamic Law for Minorities: Towards a Western Muslim Identity." He has said that the goal of his study is for Muslims to "develop their identity shaped by the traditions, laws and environment of their country of residence."

In addition to his work on Islamic law, Auda is a founding member of the International Union for Muslim Scholars, which is based in Dublin and seeks to represent Muslims living in countries where the majority of the population is non-Muslim and to promote Islamic scholarship.

Don't miss hearing this progressive thinker bring his insights to our prestigious panel of leaders and scholars who will address the theme of "Spring Forward: America's Role in a Changing World."
