
The Muslim Public Affairs Council today announced it will hold a policy forum on U.S.-Iranian relations since the 2009 presidential elections on Tuesday, March 23rd in Washington, DC. Entitled "U.S.-Iran Relations Post-Elections: Confrontation or Engagement?", the panel discussion will examine the changed political dynamics in Iran, the recent rise of reform movements, and whether the U.S. and Iran's foreign policy strategies seek to establish greater diplomatic engagement or a more confrontational stance.
MPAC-DC will be participating in an upcoming event, on March 8 in Washington DC, called, "Census 2010: Muslim Voices Matter," featuring Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN), Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD), and Imam Johari Abdul-Malik at Georgetown University. Also participating will be representatives from the American Muslim Interactive Network, MPAC, and the Arab American Institute.
This weekend, MPAC engaged members of the Islamic Center of Southern California during a workshop regarding the Census 2010. The Census will determine where $400 billion in federal funds will be allocated and how many Congressional seats will be assigned to each state.
On Tuesday, January 12, the Muslim Public Affairs Council's Hollywood Bureau will be holding a special event featuring Hollywood legend and trailblazer Debbie Allen, in Los Angeles. Ms. Allen will discuss her struggle for acceptance, respect and recognition as a trailblazing African American in Hollywood. Ms. Allen will juxtapose her experience to that of the Muslim American community in breaking in, overcoming stereotypes and making history in Hollywood. This talk will be followed by a Q&A with the audience. The event is FREE for MPAC members and $15 for non-members.
Our 9th annual convention brought together 800 activists, government officials, youth, young leaders, civil rights advocates, media professionals, and thinkers for a day of discussion, debate and action. What a day it was!
