Bloomberg Meets With Muslim Leaders After Fort Hood Attack
November 19, 2009
In what was a welcome surprise to many, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg last week invited 10 local Muslim leaders to a private meeting to express his concern over the safety of Muslims in New York City following the Fort Hood attack. MPAC-NYC Board Chair Dalia Mahmoud was among those who attended the meeting at City Hall.

"The Mayor was extremely sincere and honest in his outreach to the community," Mahmoud said. "This is a welcome sign of engagement by the Mayor and a demonstration that he is eager to represent the concerns of all New Yorkers."
The Mayor was also joined by NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, who reiterated the city's zero tolerance policy toward hate crimes.
