Do You Know A Young Muslim Actor Interested In A Feature Film Role?
September 04, 2009
Writer/director/producer Travis Fine recently invited MPAC's Hollywood Bureau to consult on his independent feature film, "The Space Between." Melissa Leo, 2009 Academy Award nominee for best actress, has been cast in the lead role. Fine is now looking to cast the other lead character, 10-year-old "Omar," and has asked for our help. So we're turning to you...
Character Description:
"Omar Hassan" - male, 10-14 years old, Arab-American or South Asian-American
An extremely intelligent boy, Omar has lived most of his life in a seedy apartment in New York City sheltered from American music, television and members of the opposite sex. He spends his days studying at a Muslim school and his nights sleeping in the front seat of his father's cab.
Having lost his mother at a very young age, the one constant in Omar's life has been his father, Maliq. But, Omar's deep loving connection to Maliq is put to the ultimate test when they are separated - maybe even forever - by the events of September 11th.
The lead role requires extensive dialogue and a wide range of emotion - strong acting skills are essential.
If you think your son, brother, nephew, or any other child fitting the description might be right for this role, please email me with a photo (e.g. school picture or candid shot) along with a brief description of the boy.
I look forward to receiving your submissions.
