Rick Warren & Juan Cole to Address 'New Era' at MPAC Convention on Dec. 20

The Muslim Public Affairs Council today announced that best-selling author Rick Warren and legal scholar Juan Cole will serve as speakers during MPAC's 8th annual national convention on Saturday, December 20th in Long Beach, CA.
The convention will explore the theme of "A New Era, A New Role", featuring leading thinkers, media professionals, and community leaders on the historic possibilities facing all Americans at this unique point in the history of our nation and our community.

"We have seen unprecedented levels of political and civic participation among Muslim Americans who want to be a contributing part of addressing our nation's challenges," said MPAC Executive Director Salam Al-Marayati. "The convention is an important and unique opportunity to explore how we can all be a part of a better future for all Americans, and for the world."
Rick Warren, author of "A Purpose Driven Life," hosted a groundbreaking faith forum with presidential candidates Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama, which was broadcast on CNN this summer. In 2005, TIME magazine named him one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" and U.S. News & World Report named him one of America's 25 best leaders. "The Purpose Driven Life" has sold 25 million copies and is the best-selling hardback book in American history, according to Publisher's Weekly.

Juan Cole is a professor of History at the University of Michigan, serves as the President of the Global Americana Institute, and publishes an extremely popular blog called "Informed Comment." As a scholar of Middle Eastern affairs, he has testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and served as a commentator on CNN, NBC and MSNBC.
