Support H. Res. 450 Demanding an Immediate Cessation of Violence in the Middle East

July 25, 2006

The Muslim Public Affairs Council commends the efforts of Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) for introducing House Resolution 450, which calls for an immediate ceasefire of violence in the Middle East. While there has been an abundance of legislation regarding the situation in this region, the Kucinich resolution calls for the "President to appeal to all sides in the current crisis in the Middle East". The resolution also commits the United State to multi-party negotiations with no preconditions and "urges these multi-party negotiations to begin as soon as possible".

The Resolution call on President George W. Bush to "send a high-level diplomatic mission to the region to facilitate such multi-party negotiations". These multi-party negotiations would include delegations from the United States, Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Jordan and Egypt with the hopes of working togethor to seek a peaceful resolution. MPAC calls on American Muslims to contact their representatives in order to help stop the bloodshed in Lebanon. It is important that American Muslims make their voices heard and express the need of the current administration to demonstrate a fair and even-handed approach on this issue. It is imperative for the American Muslim community to take a proactive role on positive legislation in order to promote a more equitable approach to policy on a global level. Please take a moment to contact your representative and urge them to vote YES on H.Res. 450.
